This event is set to be a highlight on the dance calendar, with three exciting dance battle categories to register for: Hip Hop 1 vs 1, Breaking 1 vs 1, and Waacking 1v1.

For those unfamiliar with these dance styles, let’s take a closer look at each one.

Hip Hop is a dance style that originated in African American and Latinx communities in the United States during the 1970s. It is characterized by its high energy, fluid movements, and emphasis on rhythm and beat. Hip Hop dance can be performed solo or in groups, and it often incorporates elements of other dance styles, such as popping, locking, and breaking.

Breaking, also known as breakdancing, is another dance style that originated in the United States during the 1970s. It is often associated with Hip Hop culture, but it has its own unique set of movements and techniques. Breaking involves acrobatic moves such as spins, flips, and freezes, and it is typically performed to Hip Hop and funk music.

Waacking, also spelled whacking, is a dance style that originated in the LGBTQ+ communities of Los Angeles during the 1970s. It is characterized by its fluid, exaggerated arm movements and sharp, staccato poses. Waacking is often performed to disco and funk music, and it is known for its theatricality and sense of drama.

Now that we have a better understanding of the dance styles on offer at the GrandSlam Dance Sport Club League Finals, let’s take a closer look at the event itself.
